AI Infrastructure Startup ASI Secures $325M Series C and Reaches $3B Valuation
ASI Inc. has raised $325 million in Series C funding to scale its physical infrastructure AI models, pushing its valuation to $3 billion following major contracts with the FAA and U.S. military.

Artificial intelligence startup ASI Inc. has successfully secured $325 million in a Series C financing round, elevating its corporate valuation to $3 billion. Spark Capital led the investment round, with additional participation from Citadel Securities, Craft Ventures, Meritech Capital, Energy Impact Partners, and Andreessen Horowitz. Formerly known as Air Space Intelligence, the company builds frontier models designed to simulate physical reality and future scenarios, helping organizations orchestrate critical infrastructure in real time across the aviation, defense, and energy sectors.
Founder and Chief Executive Phillip Buckendorf noted that the company distinguishes itself by focusing on physical asset management rather than text or video generation. While much of the tech sector has concentrated on teaching AI to manipulate words, ASI builds systems designed to control real-world assets where precision is vital. The freshly secured capital will enable the startup to expand its operations across its core industries, target new sectors such as logistics, and grow its research and engineering teams.
Major Federal Contracts and Real-World Applications
The funding announcement follows a string of significant customer deployments. In June, ASI secured an $875 million multiyear agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration to manage future air traffic across the United States. Winning the 12-year contract involved beating out larger competitors like Palantir Technologies Inc. and Thales SE. The software merges data regarding flight paths, real-time air traffic, weather conditions, and controller staffing to predict congestion and plan detours. Following its implementation at Dulles International Airport last month, the FAA intends to roll out the platform to major airports nationwide.
Beyond aviation, the startup has established a strong presence in defense and energy. Earlier in October, the company finalized a five-year, $99 million agreement to supply the U.S. Army with AI software for command-and-control operations. It also collaborates with the U.S. Air Force and provides energy sector clients, including National Grid USA Service Company Inc., with simulation tools to plan for power grid demand surges.
What it means for developers
For software engineers and developers building next-generation applications, ASI's growth highlights a broader shift toward domain-specific, high-reliability AI systems that interface directly with physical data and simulation environments. Building these systems requires robust underlying models capable of complex reasoning and real-time computation.
