Bluesky Upgrades Attie to Bring AI 'Vibe Coding' and Mini-Apps to AT Protocol

Bluesky has expanded its experimental Attie tool, enabling users to generate games, sites, and polls on the AT Protocol with custom AI models and built-in network reach.

Bluesky Upgrades Attie to Bring AI 'Vibe Coding' and Mini-Apps to AT Protocol

Bluesky is extending the footprint of its decentralized ecosystem beyond its flagship microblogging app. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, the social network unveiled a major update to Attie, its experimental platform, turning it into a creation suite where users can generate interactive experiences such as websites, mini-games, quizzes, and polls.

Initially launched as an AI-powered system designed to help users assemble custom algorithmic feeds, Attie is now setting its sights on broader software creation. Experiences created through the service are deployed on the AT Protocol (atproto), the decentralized framework that powers Bluesky and the broader collection of independent applications known as the Atmosphere.

Expanding Attie into Social "Vibe Coding"

Bluesky Chief Executive Officer Toni Schneider detailed the expanded capabilities during an interview at Disrupt, describing the tool as a bridge between individual software creation and communal digital spaces. Schneider, a former CEO of Automattic and partner at True Ventures, stepped into the top executive role after former CEO Jay Graber became the company's chief innovation officer in March.

"We’re adding a feature to our Attie product that allows you to build sites and social experiences again for a group of people. So think of it as… social vibe coding or vibe coding for your community," Schneider said. He observed that while vibe coding is largely experienced as a single-user activity today, Attie is intended to allow groups to build interactive tools together.

Projects generated through Attie remain tied directly to a creator's atproto identity. To lower barriers to entry, Attie also suggests formats and project ideas derived from a user's public Bluesky profile.

Tapping Built-In Distribution and Model Flexibility

A persistent challenge facing standalone indie apps and AI prototypes is reaching users. Bluesky Chief Operating Officer Rose Wang emphasized that Attie attempts to resolve this issue by tying newly published creations straight into the network's existing base of 47 million registered accounts, even as Bluesky navigates an engagement drop following the return of some early testers to X.

"Everybody is building…But the big question is: who’s using the thing you’re building, because we haven’t solved that problem with distribution," Wang stated. "This is what makes Attie so interesting is that it comes with the Bluesky distribution, so it doesn’t stand alone."

Builders working with Attie will not be restricted to a single locked-in AI engine. Users have the option to bring their own AI models or run open-weight alternatives to generate their games, polls, and web pages.

What it means for developers

For developers following the decentralized social landscape, Attie marks a transition toward turning atproto into a runtime for shared, interactive applications rather than just syndicated posts. Linking software directly to decentralized identity handles allows developers to build utilities that immediately recognize social relationships without needing separate authentication systems.

This initiative aligns with upcoming architectural changes to the protocol. Schneider stated that support for private data—the most requested feature from third-party developers—is currently undergoing alpha testing, with a full rollout scheduled before the end of the year. Private data will make it possible to build private group tools, unlisted games, and restricted feeds that do not broadcast information across the open ledger.

Because Attie accommodates external AI backends, engineers building generative agents or custom code generators can experiment with various language models. Developers looking to benchmark different model providers or scale their integrations can try top AI models cheaply through one API at https://apixoai.online as they construct experimental tooling for the atproto ecosystem. Ultimately, Bluesky is banking on the idea that social software is shifting toward focused, modular experiments designed for small communities rather than massive global feeds.
