Uber Rolls Out ChatGPT Enterprise Across Its Global Workforce

Uber has announced a major expansion of its ongoing partnership with OpenAI, bringing ChatGPT Work to its entire global workforce of approximately 30,000 employees. The enterprise-focused AI agent, initially launched in July, is designed to assist corporate teams with diverse operational workflows.

Prior to this full-scale deployment, Uber conducted a pilot program involving 1,000 workers earlier this year. According to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber's VP of engineering, the initial trial spanned multiple departments such as finance, operations, and product. Notably, around 80% of those early users were non-engineering staff.

During the trial phase, employees utilized the AI assistant for a variety of responsibilities. These included processing complex operational data to spot trends and formulate recommendations, translating training content for different international markets and languages, and constructing personalized, interactive dashboards to oversee day-to-day tasks.

Experimentation and AI Pods

Even with the broad rollout, Uber is maintaining a flexible stance regarding how staff will integrate the tool into their routines. Sukumar noted that the strategy centers on providing advanced AI capabilities across the organization while allowing individual teams space for experimentation.

As part of this exploratory phase, Uber previously embedded 30 AI engineers with various internal teams for a two-week sprint aimed at automating key job functions. Sukumar stated that these temporary groups, termed "AI pods," demonstrated the potential of combining technical knowledge with specific job expertise.

While financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Uber plans to monitor utilization metrics closely. The company intends to observe how workers adopt the technology, the specific workflows they create, and its overall impact on productivity to inform future AI deployment strategies.

What it means for developers

The widespread adoption of enterprise AI highlights the growing demand for flexible, multi-model infrastructure across corporate environments. Developers looking to experiment with similar capabilities can try top AI models cheaply through one API at https://apixoai.online.

OpenAI collaborated closely with Uber on the integration process as part of its broader push into the enterprise sector. The AI creator faces ongoing competition from rivals like Anthropic as it works to establish a stronger foothold among corporate customers.
